“What does community truly mean?” That question resonates as we stand before Broadlands Community Church. It is a non-denominational Christian church near Faulkner Parkway. This church extends a warm welcome to people of all backgrounds.
Broadlands Community Church’s story began in January 1998. Wallace and Linda Mitchell were commissioned by Reston Bible Church. They were tasked to plant a church in the Ashburn area. The focus was on cell groups and empowering individuals. For several years, Broadlands Community Church met in various schools. They were seeking a permanent place to call home. Finally, in 2004, the church purchased five acres in Ashburn. On March 4, 2007, Broadlands Community Church moved into this very building.
Wallace Mitchell, the pastor, has an interesting background. Before entering ministry, he worked for the CIA from 1973 to 1989. He then served as an associate pastor at Reston Bible Church for a decade. Wallace and his wife Linda have served in various ministries. This has given them a broad view of church service. They both possess a steadfast love for Scripture. They also have a deep passion for people.
Wallace is also an author. He penned “Not Right, Not Wrong, Just Different”. The book shares their story of restoring their marriage. Steve Grissom, Founder and President of DivorceCare, highly recommends the book. Larry Kreider, author and International Director of DOVE Christian Fellowship Int’l, also endorses the book.
Broadlands Community Church offers much to its community. Sunday services begin at 10 am. Bible studies are available for men, women, and children. There is also a youth group. Weekend retreats provide opportunities for spiritual growth. The church also makes sermons available as podcasts. These can be downloaded from the church’s website. Broadlands Community Church also engages in Alpha courses. These courses are for seekers and those curious about Christianity. Each meeting includes a light dinner and discussion.
