Nestled in the heart of Malesice, a quiet corner outside of Prague’s city centre, lies the Botanical garden Malešice. This tranquil haven, initially a part of a grand private villa, whispers forgotten tales of grandeur and wartime resilience. It started its life as a well-kept garden belonging to a local businessman, but in the early 20th century, the villa was transformed into a Neo-Renaissance castle. During the Second World War, the German army used the castle as a hospital. After the war, the building was returned to the state and became home to the horticultural school in 1948. The garden, now cared for by students, feels like a large park with winding paths, making it the perfect place to escape the bustling city. The trees and plants are labelled with both Czech and Latin names. The students maintain the whole 11-hectare area, ensuring that every leaf and blossom reveals nature’s breathtaking beauty. The garden is a reminder that even in the face of war and change, beauty endures, and even the smallest seed can blossom into something extraordinary.
