Doesn’t it feel like Borbiago has been waiting for us? Borbiago is a charming part of Mira. It holds stories that stretch back over a thousand years.

In 994, Borbiago appeared in an official document. Emperor Otto II donated Aureliaco, now Oriago and Burgugliaco, known today as Borbiago, to the Count of Treviso Rambaldo. This marked Borbiago’s formal entry into recorded history.

Borbiago sits along the ancient Roman road called Via Caltana. This was the sixth decumanus south of the main decumanus in the Roman grid system. The road links Oriago and Campodarsego.

The A57 Mestre bypass crosses Borbiago. The Lusore and Cesegnego canals flow through it.

The Borbiago church dates back to 1152. Pope Eugene III confirmed the rights of the Bishop of Treviso. This included the plebem S. Theonisti de Burbiliago with its castle, port, court, and lands. Later, the Benedictine abbey of Sant’Ilario of Malcontenta took control for a time. The current Borbiago church was built in 1662.

In Borbiago, a shrine protects a well. Believers say a deaf-mute girl saw the Madonna there. She was instantly healed. The exact date is not known.

Inside the Borbiago church, a small chapel holds a statue. It shows the Madonna and Child. Andrea Briosco created this colorful stone statue in the late 15th century.

Gaspare Diziani painted a large ceiling canvas. It measures 11.20 x 4.65 meters. It shows the Blessed Virgin giving the scapular to Saint Simon Stock. Diziani worked on it from 1728 to 1731.

A painting attributed to Palma il Giovane’s school is also present. It shows Jesus appearing to Saint Teresa of Avila.

In 1983, Polisportiva Borbiago was founded. From the 2016/2017 season, it became a youth soccer association.

Borbiago is a blend of history, faith, and community. It is a place where ancient roads meet modern life. It’s a place where miracles are remembered. Borbiago is more than just a stop on a map.
