The Biblioteca do Conjunto das Químicas has a rich history. Its origins trace back to 1902. At that time it was part of the library of the old Escola de Pharmacia, Odontologia e Obstetrícia. In 1934 the school was annexed to the Universidade de São Paulo. It was then named Faculdade de Farmácia e Odontologia. The collection evolved further. In 1962 it became part of the Biblioteca da Faculdade de Farmácia e Bioquímica. It was located on Rua Três Rios until 1965.
In 1965 and 1966, the Faculdade de Farmácia e Bioquímica moved. They went to the Cidade Universitária. This complex of pavilions was called Conjunto das Químicas. The Biblioteca do Conjunto das Químicas emerged. It united the collections. These collections belonged to the Faculdade de Farmácia e Bioquímica. Also included was the Departamento da Química of the Faculdade de Filosofia, Ciências e Letras. All were under unified administration.
The university reform of 1970 brought more changes. The library incorporated collections. These came from the departments of Química e Bioquímica. They were part of the Escola Politécnica. Also included were the Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária and Faculdade de Odontologia. These joined with related collections. They formed the Instituto de Química.
From 1985 the Biblioteca do Conjunto das Químicas gained recognition. It became the Biblioteca Principal de Química e Engenharia Química in the country. This was after project approval by CNPq/PADCT.
A 1992 administrative reform led to restructuring. The library became the Divisão de Biblioteca e Documentação do Conjunto das Químicas. Until September 1991 it was housed in Bloco 6. It then moved to its own building.
In 2009 the Biblioteca do Conjunto das Químicas expanded. An annex was officially inaugurated. The library now covers a total area of 3,473 square meters.
