Have you ever wondered what secrets lie within a library? In front of you stands the Biblioteca Civica Francesco Cognasso, a haven of knowledge and culture in the heart of Turin. This library, named after the renowned medieval historian Francesco Cognasso, is a treasure trove of stories, ideas, and history. It was inaugurated in 1985 in a building dating back to the early seventies. In its early years, it spanned two floors, with the ground floor housing the welcome desk, the sound library, the children’s rooms, consultation area, fiction, and periodicals. The basement housed adult non-fiction and reading spots. During a renovation in 1994, all the spaces were consolidated on one level on the ground floor. This library boasts an impressive collection of over 56,000 books, a diverse range of 83 newspapers and magazines, and 2,259 DVDs, offering an extensive resource for its visitors. You can use one of the two internet browsing stations or access the library’s Wi-Fi network to delve into its digital world. While you can’t print here, you can use the library’s photocopy service at a cost of five cents per copy. While you explore the library, don’t forget to take a moment to appreciate its charm. It is a testament to the power of literature and a testament to the legacy of Francesco Cognasso, a historian dedicated to the history of Turin and Piedmont. You can truly feel his presence in every corner of this library.
