This isn’t just any library. It’s a treasure trove of knowledge and a testament to the life of Álvaro Maria d’Almada Guerra. A man of many talents he was an educator journalist and poet. His literary journey began in 1885. He published his first verses in O Constitucional. He later taught at the Externato Amor à Ciência. There he even edited a literary magazine Colibri. It showcased the poetic works of students and teachers.
Álvaro Guerra’s life wasn’t confined to São Paulo. He spent six years teaching in Taubaté. He also directed the local newspaper O Noticiarista. His columns and poems graced its pages. In 1895 he moved to São Paulo. His work as a chronicler and literary critic was well-received at O Comércio de São Paulo. He even used pseudonyms Anastácio Paz Simplício Faber and Johann Faber.
By 1909 he dedicated himself to teaching. He focused less on journalism only occasionally contributing to literary magazines. For almost a decade his work revolved around publishing didactic literature. His literary career culminated in his admission to the Academia Paulista de Letras. Even in his later years he continued writing for several newspapers. He contributed to A Gazeta O Comércio de São Paulo Correio Paulistano Diário Popular and Folha da Manhã. His legacy lives on in this library that bears his name.

This pioneering information service collects and mediates the memories of the elderly. This project developed in collaboration with the Department of Library and Documentation at ECA-USP.
