Established in 1974 the Bharat Sevashram Sangha in Toronto has a rich history. Swami Brahmanandaji a principal from Guyana Hindu College brought the Sangha to Canada. He initially held meetings at devotees’ homes. Soon a formal group was formed. They incorporated as the Bharat Sevashram Sangha Sat-sangh Society of Canada. The name later changed to Bharat Sevashram Sangha Canada. The Sangha found temporary space in a University of Toronto chapel. The growing membership needed more room. In 1983 they bought a storefront with living quarters. Swami Brahmanandaji passed away in 1987. The Sangha persevered. In 1989 they purchased a house on an acre of land in Etobicoke. This is the current location at 2107 Codlin Crescent. The Bharat Sevashram Sangha continues its mission of service. They provide disaster relief education healthcare and vocational training. The Toronto branch is part of a global network. Their activities include cultural programs religious services and community outreach. The Bharat Sevashram Sangha’s legacy in Toronto is a testament to faith dedication and service to humanity. The Sangha is a vital part of the community.
