Let’s step back in time for a moment. The Seventh-day Adventist Church has roots in the Millerite movement of the 1830s and 1840s. William Miller preached in Canada. His message stirred interest across the Canadas and the Maritimes. The first Millerite camp meeting in Canada took place in Hatley Quebec.
After some divergent views, the Sabbatarian group formed. They sought out Millerites and shared their Sabbath beliefs. Joseph Bates and Hiram Edson traveled through knee-deep snow along Lake Ontario. They were looking for scattered Millerites.
The first Seventh-day Adventist church in Canada was in South Stukely Quebec. It started on September 30 1877. Sixteen members formed the church.
In 1901, the church created union conferences. These oversaw local conferences. The Canadian Union Conference included Ontario Quebec the Maritimes and Newfoundland. In 1914, the Eastern Canadian Union Conference emerged.
To address the Great Depression’s impact, the two Canadian union conferences merged in 1932. In 1986, they combined to form the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Canada. It became a non-profit religious corporation.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church believes in a Trinity. The Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit form one God. Jesus came to Earth lived a sinless life and was crucified for our sins.
