Imagine Sunday evening services held in that unlikely space. A testament to the early congregants’ devotion.

Miss Anna Neethling’s Sunday school in a goods shed. It further paints the picture of simple beginnings. Their dedication led to the establishment of The Bethel Undenominational European Mission. A hall on the corner of Rhos Street and Voortrekker Road became their next sanctuary.

In 1926 the congregation affiliated with the Presbyterian Church of Southern Africa. Reverend T H Jones a retired minister from Rhodesia arrived in 1927 to establish the church. A generous donation of land from Mr A Campbell made the current location possible. The first building later known as the Old Hall was inaugurated in 1929. Sadly Reverend Jones passed away before seeing the foundation stone laid. His tireless fundraising efforts laid the groundwork for this vibrant community.

The church building and manse were completed in 1954. The Sunday School Hall followed in 1973. The original Old Hall was extensively renovated in 2015. Now it houses the Grace Kitchen Ministry. This ministry provides vital support to the community.
