Established in 1957, Belgravia Secondary School stands as a testament to community spirit. Originally known as Athlone Secondary School No. 2, Belgravia Secondary School quickly became a cornerstone of education in Athlone, Cape Town. The school’s motto, “Work Ennobles,” reflects its commitment to empowering students through education. Imagine the school in its early years. It wasn’t until 1959 that the first brick buildings graced the campus. Before that, students likely learned in more modest structures. Think of the dedication of those early educators and students. Belgravia Secondary School has witnessed pivotal moments in South African history. During the Western Cape Youth Uprising of 1976, the students of Belgravia Secondary School, alongside those from Alexander Sinton Secondary School, bravely boycotted classes. They joined the wave of protests sweeping the nation. They participated in marches and demonstrations against the apartheid regime’s discriminatory education policies. Today, Belgravia Secondary School continues to thrive. It serves a diverse student body of approximately 890 learners. The school boasts a dedicated staff of around 38 teachers.
