The cornerstone. A silent testament to faith and perseverance. This unassuming stone marks the beginning of Bayview Glen Church’s remarkable journey. But this isn’t just any church. Bayview Glen Church in Toronto boasts a rich history. It’s a story woven with threads of evangelism and community. It all began in 1941. It started as Avenue Road Church a small congregation. Charles Bradley Templeton an itinerant evangelist led the first services. About 112 people attended services in a large stone church.
The church thrived. It grew both spiritually and numerically. After over 35 years the Avenue Road Church needed a change. In 1970 Pastor Arnie Reimer had a vision. A new location was needed. He saw the potential to serve a growing diverse population in the Greater Toronto Area. The congregation purchased 6.2 acres of land. It was at the corner of Bayview Avenue and Steeles Avenue in Thornhill.
In March 1978 the first service was held in the new building. The church was renamed Bayview Glen Church. It quickly became a significant presence in the community. Over the years many pastors guided the congregation. Each pastor left their mark. They built on the foundation laid by those before them.
One notable pastor was Dr Aiden Wilson Tozer. A self-taught theologian he served from 1959 to 1963. His books have touched millions of Christians worldwide. Another significant figure was Rev Arnold Reimer. He oversaw the move to the current location. His leadership was instrumental in the church’s growth.
Bayview Glen Church is more than just a building. It is a vibrant community. It reflects the diversity of Toronto. It stands as a testament to enduring faith. It continues to grow serving the community and spreading its message. In 2018 Bayview Glen Church celebrated 40 years of ministry. This wasn’t just a celebration of the past. It was a reaffirmation of its commitment to serving God and its community. The church stands as a beacon of hope. Its legacy continues to inspire future generations.
