AMD was founded in 1969. It began with the vision of Jerry Sanders. Sanders sought to build semiconductors of the highest quality. AMD initially acted as an alternative source of chips. They redesigned them for greater speed and efficiency.
Sanders was known for his flamboyant leadership. He motivated employees. He stressed respect. AMD quickly gained an aggressive reputation. This contrasted with its competitors.
In 1972, AMD went public. By 1974, they had nearly 1500 employees. They produced over 200 products. Sales reached nearly $26.5 million. AMD celebrated its five-year anniversary with a gala party.
