This bronze sculpture of Astrid Lindgren sits on a hill in Tegnérlunden Park, a park she often walked through. The story is said to have started when she saw a little boy sitting alone on a bench one evening. Astrid Lindgren is a beloved children’s author. She created iconic characters like Pippi Longstocking, Karlsson-on-the-Roof, and Emil of Lönneberga. Her books are translated into more than 100 languages and are read by millions of children all over the world. She was awarded the Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award in 1958. The inscription on this statue is: “Å Nangilima ja Jonatan ja jag ser ljuset”, which translates to: “Oh Nangilima and Jonatan and I see the light”. This is from one of Astrid Lindgren’s stories, Mio, My Son. The statue was created in 1996. It is a reminder of the impact Astrid Lindgren made on literature, especially on children’s literature. This statue is more than just a bronze figure, It is a testament to a life dedicated to enchanting and inspiring generations with her words.
