“Imagine a landmark rising from the city edge.” That’s how the Artron Art Centre in Shenzhen was conceived. Surrounded by three highways, Artron Art Centre stands as a testament to art and culture. It is not just a building. It’s a dialogue between urban infrastructure and artistic expression.
Artron is China’s foremost printing enterprise. It actively creates artists’ archives. The Artron Art Centre needed to be a multi-service printing facility and cultural hub. This is because the site is on the periphery of the city.
Meng Yan was the principle architect. The design period spanned from 2008 to 2013. Construction took place from 2010 to 2015. The site area covers 12535 square meters. The total floor area is 41504 square meters.
The building’s shape is continuous. It integrates with the large-scale urban infrastructure. Gaps between different volumes offer a comfortable visual experience. A triangular plot was reserved as a public park. This improves the urban environment. From the small park, each side of the Artron Art Centre presents a different perspective.
Inside, a wreathed volume encloses an inner sky garden. This connects the art center, printing factory, and offices. It provides ground public space shared by different departments. This inner sky garden effectively blocks outside noise.
The art gallery is isolated from public functions on the ground floor. It is placed in parallel with the corporate headquarters. Elevating these parts to the top floor created an independent art space. This design provides multiple routes for exploration and a rich internal experience.
Artron Art Centre is more than just a building. It is a hub for sharing books, cultural lectures, and art exhibitions. It provides community interactions enriching daily aesthetics.
With a mission of serving professionals and benefiting the public, Artron Art Centre provides resources to art professionals. These include collectors and art enthusiasts.
