Armadale Public School opened its doors in September 1990. The school quickly became a focal point for the community. Staff and locals worked together to build a strong, supportive environment. The school is named after Armadale, Ontario. It is the community in which it resides.
Originally, Armadale Public School served over 800 students. By the early 2000s, the school’s population was close to 1,000. Major renovations took place in 2000 and 2001. A new two-story wing replaced temporary portables. A second gymnasium and sixteen new classrooms were added. The parking lot was expanded. New pathways were created on the playfield.
In September 2007, an air-conditioned port-a-pak was added. The front office and main entrance were also renovated. Further renovations in September 2012 accommodated Full Day Kindergarten. Two new Kindergarten rooms were added.
Until 2008, Armadale Public School’s mascot was an anaconda. It was entwined around a storybook letter A. This symbolized inclusion and strength from students, staff, parents and community. In 2008, the school adopted a new mascot. It became the Eagle. The eagle represents strength and pride. It encourages students to soar and reach their goals.
Armadale Public School celebrated its 25th anniversary on May 7, 2015. The community party honored the rich history of the school.
Armadale Public School strives for excellence in education. Literacy is a key focus. Teachers use assessment-based instruction. This instruction meets the diverse needs of all students. Armadale participates in several programs. These include 4Cs Learning Collaborative and Action Research teams. They also use Tribes Training.
Sports are an important part of Armadale Public School. The school offers many intramural and team sports. A Winter Activity Day in February encourages physical fitness. It is for students in grades 4 to 8.
The school provides a safe and supportive learning environment. Anti-bullying programs and social skills counseling are available. There are also guest speakers and workshops. Programs like Junior Achievement, Girls Inc. and Scientists in the Schools are offered. Other initiatives include Roots of Empathy, Music and Band, and Eco-Club. Student leadership programs and VIP programs are in place. Transition teams support students.
Armadale Public School’s motto reflects its values. The original motto was “Learning from Each Other.” The school promotes respect, communication, cooperation and a sense of community.
