Thirty-five years of cherry blossoms a testament to resilience. Welcome to the Área de Proteção Ambiental Parque e Fazenda do Carmo. This isn’t just any park. Americano a man of means used the property as a weekend getaway for his family. The main house now a biodiversity museum stood as a symbol of his wealth. A fig tree a symbol of status and power stood proudly beside it. A large lake fueled his passion for water sports. Americano’s legacy however extends beyond personal enjoyment. Upon his death in 1974 his heirs sold the estate. The city acquired a significant portion transforming it into what we know today.

The Área de Proteção Ambiental Parque e Fazenda do Carmo officially opened in 1976. Playgrounds barbeque areas and resting spots were added. Thirteen years later the area gained further protection becoming an officially designated environmental protection area. In 2012 it received its current name honoring former mayor Olavo Egydio Setúbal who championed the park’s creation. The Área de Proteção Ambiental Parque e Fazenda do Carmo is more than just a green space. It is a 867 60-hectare sanctuary of biodiversity.
