The Archbishop Grammar School stands tall. It has six floors and two basement levels. The building dates back to 1938. It has seen many changes. From a girls’ school to a state school and back to a church school.
In 1938 Cardinal Karel Ka\u0161par blessed the building. It was then the Girls’ Real Grammar School of the School Sisters of St Francis. Imagine the girls in their uniforms. They walk these halls with dreams of the future.
During the communist era the school was nationalized. It became known as Wilhelm Pieck Grammar School. The telescope in the observatory was removed. Water tanks replaced it. The focus shifted to science and foreign languages.
After the Velvet Revolution the school was returned to the Prague Archbishopric. In 1992 it was renamed Archbishop Grammar School. The school’s founder is the Prague Archbishopric. Today it is owned by the St Francis’ sisters.
The Archbishop Grammar School has a rich curriculum. Every student learns at least two foreign languages and Latin. Many students take English and German. Some even pursue the German Language Diploma.
The school offers many elective subjects. These seminars allow students to explore their interests. Philosophy is compulsory for older students. It encourages a deeper understanding of the world.
