Nestled in the northern part of Meguro, Tokyo, lies the charming district of Aobadai. Aobadai is a blend of residential tranquility and urban accessibility. As of October 1, 2020, Aobadai’s population stood at 8,362. The district consists of four chome, offering a variety of living experiences within its borders. Aobadai is bordered by several districts. These include Shinsenchō, Nanpeidaichō, Hachiyamachō, and Sarugakuchō to the north. Kamimeguro lies to the south. Higashiyama, Ōhashi, and Komaba border Aobadai to the west and northwest. Aobadai also boasts a unique hillside neighborhood known as Saigōyama, or “Saigō Mountain,” in its 2-chōme. This area takes its name from Saigō Tsugumichi. He was a Meiji-era politician and brother of Saigō Takamori. Tsugumichi once owned a mansion in Aobadai. The mansion has since been relocated to the Meiji Mura museum in Inuyama, Aichi. Now, Saigōyama Park and Sugekari Park occupy the former mansion site. Aobadai is home to the Japan Map Center, offering a unique glimpse into the art of cartography. For those seeking education, Aobadai has options. Sugekari Elementary School, established in 1875, serves the community. For higher education, Sanno University maintains its “Daikanyama Campus” in Aobadai. The Aoba-Japan International School also calls Aobadai home. Aobadai is more than just a district. It’s a community. It’s a blend of history, education, and convenient city living. Aobadai represents a unique slice of Tokyo life.
