Craving a seaside retreat not far from the urban sprawl? Then welcome to Anglers’ Beach. Many of Shenzhen’s most popular beaches are along the Dapeng Peninsula. Anglers’ Beach offers a tranquil escape. It is perfect for relaxing after the stresses of downtown life.
Just an hour or so’s drive from Shenzhen. The clear waters and tropical scenery might remind you of Hainan. Don’t expect the murky waters closer to the city. Industry and aquaculture there pollute the water.
Anglers’ Beach and other resorts here have accommodations for every budget. There are big-name five-star resorts and more affordable hotels.
Dameisha is Shenzhen’s most well-known beach. It is about 45 minutes from Luohu, longer in heavy traffic. Dameisha gets incredibly crowded especially on weekends and holidays. Dameisha is a major destination for expats. They throw beach parties for hundreds of people. These parties often last until morning. Look for advertisements in local expat magazines and downtown bars during the summer. Dameisha also has up-market hotels. You can unwind with opulence at places like the Sheraton.
Xiaomeisha is less crowded than Dameisha. However, it still draws crowds. It is more serene and you won’t sit cheek by jowl with other beach users. Xiaomeisha is a little further east. It is still only about an hour’s drive from downtown Shenzhen. Water sports enthusiasts flock here. Local companies offer motorboat rentals. Surfers say there are great waves. This is especially true after a typhoon. There are also hundreds of meters of rugged coastline. They offer opportunities for shore fishing. Xiaomeisha offers beach getaways for most budgets. It is less developed than Dameisha. Therefore, hotel prices are slightly lower.
Nan’ao Beach is the furthest from Shenzhen. It is the most underdeveloped. It is likely deserted outside peak season. Imagine having a tropical beach almost all to yourself. Nan’ao Beach surrounds a fishing village. This means incredibly fresh seafood at local restaurants. You will likely meet native fishermen. It is inspiring to see them maintain their traditions. This is despite being so close to one of China’s richest cities. Nan’ao is smaller. So, accommodation is fairly limited. However, you can book a hotel room for a few hundred RMB per night. This is cheaper than Dameisha or Xiaomeisha.
Consider Shenzhen for coastal scenery. You may want to rethink your next holiday to the Philippines or Thailand. These beaches make a great day out or a longer break.

These include swimming, sports, amusement and BBQ areas. The park has a shopping center and a food area. There are water sport facilities for hire and bathrooms. Transportation to the park is convenient. You can take a bus or taxi. However, Dameisha beach is always overcrowded. The facilities, like toilets and parking, leave a lot to be desired. The water quality is not good. Avoid Dameisha beach on holidays due to overcrowding.
Xiaomeisha Beach Seashore Park is close to Dameisha. Xiaomeisha is smaller. It enjoys the honorary title of Oriental Hawaii. The beach is about 800 meters long and the sand is fine. Camping is popular.
