Ängel över Nacka sten Sculpture

Sculpted in bronze, the Ängel över Nacka sten (Angel over Nacka Stone) stands as a testament to artistic vision. Here, before the Torghuset in Nacka Strand, this captivating sculpture draws our gaze. The Ängel över Nacka sten has intrigued many since its unveiling in 1995. Initially, it graced a spot outside the courthouse. The angel hovered over a heavy millstone, symbolizing the burden of judgment. Beneath, cleansing water flowed. The millstone itself represented Nacka. The angel’s lightness starkly contrasted with the millstone’s weight. Later, renovations transformed the square. The fountain and angel were removed. Artist Peter Linde, who studied at Stockholm’s Royal College of Art, reimagined the piece. He designed a column upon which the angel now rests. This revised Ängel över Nacka sten returned to its place outside the courthouse, now known as Torghuset. It was later moved closer to another sculpture, Gud Fader på himlavalvet (God the Father on the Heavenly Vault). Today, Ängel över Nacka sten appears silhouetted against the sky, flying towards Gud Fader. The angel is a woman enveloped in flowing fabric, soaring above a column. Interestingly, Ängel över Nacka sten was originally a fountain. The angel, poised for landing, reached out with one arm towards the glistening, millstone-shaped fountain. With her other hand, she seemed to brace against the wind, her gilded drapery billowing around her. This original design was removed in 2008 during renovations. The sculpture, however, persists. It continues to captivate onlookers with its ethereal presence. Now perched atop a tall stone pillar, Ängel över Nacka sten still evokes the same sense of lightness and motion, a timeless symbol of art and history intertwined.
