Established in 1998, Al-Faisal College began with just 200 students. This college has become the largest Islamic school in Australia. Al-Faisal College now has multiple campuses. They are in Auburn, Liverpool and Campbelltown. A fourth campus was planned for Lakemba.
Al-Faisal College’s Auburn campus opened first. It started with Kindergarten to Year 2 students. By 2007, the college celebrated its first graduating class. These Year 12 students completed the Higher School Certificate. Student numbers tripled between 2008 and 2018.
In 2013, Al-Faisal College expanded. It took over Iqra Grammar College in Campbelltown. This added 440 students and 28 teachers. By that August, waiting lists for Kindergarten were huge. The school struggled to accommodate all applicants.
Al-Faisal College Liverpool opened in 2015. It started with demountable classrooms. A $750,000 grant improved facilities in 2016. In 2020, plans were announced to extend the Liverpool campus. This included a new site across from the existing one. The expansion will create new facilities. These include multipurpose halls, play fields and classrooms. The project is estimated to cost over $300 million.
The Auburn campus serves as the headquarters. It includes five buildings. Building A is for primary students. Buildings B and C are shared. Buildings D and E are for secondary students. The campus features playgrounds. One is covered. The other is on the rooftops of the buildings. The Upper Hall is used for many events. These include sports, prayers and graduations.
The Campbelltown campus was revamped. It gained a multipurpose hall and a library. Computer and science labs were also added.
Al-Faisal College teaches the NSW curriculum. Students study Arabic and Islamic studies. These include the Quran. Al-Faisal College has improved its HSC rank. It rose from 54th in 2017 to 15th in 2023. Primary students study English, Maths and Science. They also study HSIE, PDHPE and Creative Arts.
The Muslim World League helped establish Al-Faisal College. Sheikh Shafiq Khan has close ties to the MWL. Despite Saudi funding, the college maintains control over its curriculum.
Al-Faisal College strives for excellence. It aims to develop students spiritually, morally and intellectually. The college has unique links to the Islamic sector. It offers a warm environment. Al-Faisal College is now one of Australia’s most respected schools.
