Seeking a spiritual haven? Look no further than Agape Baptist Church. This Filipino-International church, nestled in Washington D.C., has a rich history. Agape Baptist Church started as a vision. A small group of Filipinos, led by Eva and Jun Diongzon, began a Bible study at Wisconsin Avenue Baptist Church in 1991. They met once a month, sharing fellowship, songs, and prayers. Tragically, Jun Diongzon passed away shortly after the group’s formation. However, their shared vision continued. Reverend James C. Martinez answered the call to lead the growing fellowship. He served as pastor of Agape Baptist Church for an incredible 26 years, from 1991 to 2017. The church officially became Agape Baptist Church in 1998. The name “Agape,” meaning unconditional love, reflects the church’s mission. The church has faced challenges. The transient nature of Washington D.C. makes it difficult to maintain a consistent congregation. Many members are Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who eventually return to the Philippines. Even with these obstacles, Agape Baptist Church perseveres. They remain dedicated to sharing the Gospel and welcoming all who enter their doors. Agape Baptist Church continues its ministry at 3920 Alton Place Northwest, Washington, D.C. Their story is a testament to faith and resilience.
