A roar still echoes. It’s the sound of 114714 voices a symphony of cheers and applause. This is Accor Stadium. Right here in Sydney Olympic Park.

Accor Stadium wasn’t always Accor Stadium. It opened in 1999 as Sydney Olympic Stadium. It was built for the 2000 Summer Olympics a massive undertaking costing A$690 million. The stadium was originally designed to hold around 115000 spectators. That made it the largest Olympic Stadium ever built.

The opening ceremony of the 2000 Olympics was unforgettable. It completely sold out all 110000 seats. The closing ceremony was even more spectacular drawing a record-breaking 114714 people. Imagine the energy the excitement the sheer scale of it all.

But Accor Stadium is more than just its Olympic legacy. It’s a dynamic venue. It has hosted countless events. Rugby league matches are frequent here. The New South Wales Blues play their State of Origin games here. So do the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Accor Stadium has seen record-breaking crowds for various sports. In 1999 a then-record 107999 fans watched the NRL grand final. In 2000 a near capacity crowd witnessed a legendary rugby union match between Australia and New Zealand. In 2005 a virtual capacity crowd of 82698 watched Australia qualify for the FIFA World Cup. That match is particularly significant. John Aloisi’s penalty kick secured victory. That penalty spot is even on public display.

It’s not just about sports. Accor Stadium has also hosted major concerts. The Bee Gees performed here in 1999. Since then countless artists have graced this stage including AC/DC U2 Adele and Taylor Swift. Some of these shows broke attendance records too. The Ed Sheeran show drew in nearly 100000 people.

Beyond the numbers Accor Stadium has witnessed incredible moments. It’s a place where history was made and continues to be written. It’s more than just bricks and mortar it’s a living testament to the power of sport and entertainment. It’s a place of memories a place of dreams and a place where future sporting and cultural legends are waiting in the wings. So take a moment and absorb the atmosphere. You stand before a legend. You are at Accor Stadium Sydney.
