Acacia Flat Campground offers a remote camping experience. It is nestled deep within the Grose Valley Wilderness. Imagine pitching your tent here. You are joining a rare breed of adventurers. They have all walked into this secluded wilderness.
The campground is accessed by walking tracks. These tracks originate from either Perrys lookdown or Pierces Pass. As you set up camp, notice the rough-barked apple trees and stringybarks.
While boiling water for tea, try adding a gum leaf. This will help you soak up the atmosphere. Acacia Flat Campground is located in the biggest eucalypt factory on the planet. The fresh air and walking will tire you out. As you crawl into your tent, listen to the whispers of the bush.
Acacia Flat Campground is a great base for overnight walks. It is also excellent for birdwatching. The nearby Blue Gum Forest is a haven for birds and wildlife. Pack your binoculars to spot kestrels and wedge-tailed eagles. They often surf the thermals near the cliffs.
Acacia Flat Campground has 30 campsites. It is designed for tent camping and remote backpacking. There are toilets available. Remember to bring your own drinking water. You will also need to bring cooking water and food supplies. Pack clothes for all weather conditions. A personal locator beacon is also essential.
Camping here is free. However, a $6 booking fee applies. Bookings can be made online. You can book for up to 12 people or two sites. This campground is not suitable for group bookings.
Acacia Flat Campground is operated by the Blue Mountains Heritage Centre. You can contact them for more information. The Heritage Centre is open daily from 9am to 4pm. It is closed on Christmas Day.
