They conducted workshops and surveys with over 100 children. The children’s feedback was very important. The architects drew inspiration from Bauhaus designer Alma Siedhoff-Buscher. Her toys used geometric shapes and bright colors.
Chung and Cheng applied this to the bookshelves. They mounted the shelves on small wheels. This made them easy to move. Some shelves are straight. Others curve. They create semi-enclosed reading areas. Kids can pass through tunnels. They can nestle into whimsical reading nooks.
There is a wooden platform with two steps. Here, children and parents can sit and read. The Aberdeen Public Library is a multifunctional space. It serves many purposes.
