“Can you hear the roar of engines?” our guide asked, a mischievous glint in his eye. “Not from actual cars, mind you, but from the echoes of history.” We were standing before the 4-Takt-Hangar in Cologne, a colossal structure that seemed to hum with unseen energy. The 4-Takt-Hangar wasn’t always a silent giant. It was built in the heart of the Butzweilerhof, once a bustling airport known as the “Air Cross of the West.” The hangar itself, now a versatile event space, could host up to 4,000 guests, a far cry from its days of housing aircraft. Today, the roar of engines is replaced by the clatter of cutlery and the murmur of conversations during events. Imagine the transformation, from a hangar echoing with the roar of airplane engines to a 2,300 square meter space hosting everything from conferences to gala dinners! It’s this unique blend of history and modern functionality that makes the 4-Takt-Hangar so captivating. Even without the airplanes, it still manages to transport us, reminding us of a time when the sky was the limit, both literally and figuratively.
