Founded in 1968, the Hong Kong Church of God began its journey in Sha Tin. Today, we stand before its Sheung Shui branch, a testament to its growth and influence. The Hong Kong Church of God, originally called “The Church of God in Hong Kong,” has spread its message across Hong Kong and beyond. With around 5,000 members and 20 gathering points, the church has become a vibrant part of the religious landscape. Its headquarters, nestled in Shek O Flower Garden on Scenic Hill Road, serve as a central hub for its activities. The church’s history is marked by dedicated individuals like Yu Kwong-chiu, who started the church in the 1960s alongside two fellow Christians. They initially worked with the Shepherd’s Flock in Sha Tin. In the 1970s, they gathered at the Blue Field Primary School, sharing their faith with the local children. Their outreach expanded to Fanling, attracting factory workers and students alike. The Hong Kong Church of God has extended its reach internationally. Starting with Macau in 1982, they established the Macau Church of God. Over thirty years, they’ve reportedly founded churches in fifty-nine cities worldwide. Interestingly, the Hong Kong Church of God doesn’t operate independently like traditional denominations. They practice a “one city, one church” model promoting unity and collaboration among their branches. In 2017, the church organized “Miracle of Music,” a massive ukulele ensemble. At the AsiaWorld-Expo, 6,125 people played the ukulele together, breaking a Guinness World Record. Later that year, they broke their record with 8,065 participants. This event showcases the church’s community spirit and its unique approach to spreading joy and faith. This story of the Hong Kong Church of God is one of growth, dedication, and a commitment to building God’s family. From humble beginnings, it has expanded its reach both locally and globally, touching the lives of thousands.
