“Ever wonder about hidden sanctuaries?” Right here before us stands Chofuku-ji. This temple offers a glimpse into Tokyo’s spiritual past.

Chofuku-ji is located in Fuchu City. Its address is 4-18-1 Miyanishi-cho. It sits at 35.670861 degrees north latitude and 139.474278 degrees east longitude. The temple’s mountain name is Koboku-san.

Chofuku-ji belongs to the Jishu sect. Its principal image is Amida Nyorai. The founding date is unknown. Ippen Shonin is credited with establishing it.

Let’s delve into the history of Chofuku-ji. Though its exact founding year is unclear temple lore says Ippen founded it. Initially it was named Shofuku-ji. Later Shinnyo Shonin helped establish the temple grounds.

Archaeological finds reveal more. A wooden plaque dating to 1306 was unearthed. This suggests Chofuku-ji existed by the late Kamakura period.

In the past the temple grounds were extensive. They stretched approximately 200 meters east to west. They also spanned about 182 meters north to south.

Chofuku-ji possesses notable cultural assets. Among them are the unearthed wooden plaques. These plaques are designated as Fuchu City Tangible Cultural Properties. They received this designation on April 8 1996.

Reaching Chofuku-ji is quite straightforward. It is an eleven-minute walk from Fuchu-Hommachi Station.

Standing here we are connected to centuries of devotion. Chofuku-ji reminds us of the enduring power of faith in this city. It provides a serene escape from the modern world. Take a moment to reflect on its history.
