After the devastating defeat at the Battle of Yamen in 1279, loyal ministers sought refuge from the pursuing Yuan forces. Among them was Zhao Shizong, a Vice Minister of Imperial Clerks. He, along with others, found solace on the slopes of Huangyang Mountain, establishing Jintaisi Temple as a sanctuary. They likely hoped for a swift return to power. However, their stay extended, evolving from a temporary hideout to a place of scholarly pursuits and strategic planning. Centuries passed, and Jintaisi Temple flourished, undergoing significant expansion during the Qing dynasty. Its serene mountain setting and rich history drew visitors from afar, solidifying its place as a cultural landmark. Sadly, the mid-20th century brought hardship to Jintaisi Temple. The main structures were demolished during the Great Leap Forward. Yet, even in ruins, the spirit of Jintaisi Temple endured. In 1992, a remarkable transformation began. The temple was meticulously rebuilt. Not on its original site on the second peak, which had become submerged by the Wangbao Reservoir. Instead on the southern foothills of Huangyang Mountain. Today, Jintaisi Temple stands revitalized, a complex of halls, pavilions, and gateways covering over 7000 square meters.
