In 1923 the Great Kanto Earthquake damaged the school. The west school building suffered damage with three classrooms collapsing. By 1938 the west school building was rebuilt as a two-story wooden structure. In 1963 a pool was completed. A three-story steel-reinforced school building was constructed.

A branch school opened in 1964. It became independent in 1965. This led to the establishment of Hanahata First Elementary School. In 1969 an indoor gymnasium was completed. Nakagawa Kita Elementary School became independent in 1972. Six wooden classrooms were removed. A three-story steel-reinforced six-classroom building was completed in 1973.

Hanahata Elementary School became independent in 1973. The pool was renovated in 1978. In 1979 Mutsumi Elementary School became independent. In 2000 a ceremony celebrated the 100th anniversary of the school’s opening. Adachi Ward Hanahata Elementary School continues to evolve.

In 2002 it was recognized as a ward research promotion school. The school has a two-semester system. It is known for diligence kindness and energetic children.

The school provides school lunches. The grounds cover 10867 square meters. The school is near several train stations. These include Tsukuba Express Rokucho Station. It is also near Tobu Bus Higashi Hokima bus stop.
