Established in 1981 as the Wireless Operator National Examination Center, the Nippon Wireless Association, also known as Nichhimu, has a fascinating history. Right here in Tokyo, in the Kasumigaseki district, Nichhimu stands as a testament to Japan’s dedication to safe and efficient radio wave usage. The Nippon Wireless Association plays a crucial role in Japan’s telecommunications landscape. Initially focused on national examinations for wireless operators, Nichhimu’s role expanded significantly over the years.

In 1990, a pivotal merger with the Japan Radio Association transformed the organization. Nichhimu adopted its current name and broadened its scope. It began offering training courses and certification programs for maritime, aeronautical, and land-based special radio technicians. The association also took on the responsibility of conducting examinations for the newly introduced first-class amateur radio technician license.

Nichhimu is more than just an examination center. It actively contributes to developing international standards for radio systems. It works closely with government bodies and private industries to ensure responsible and effective radio wave utilization. Nichhimu expanded its services further to encompass training for disaster medical rescue communication experts in 2017.

Even with its evolving responsibilities, Nichhimu remains committed to its core mission. It continues to conduct national examinations for a wide range of wireless operators, twice a year. These examinations cover 23 designated categories and ensure operators are qualified to maintain safe and reliable communication networks across Japan. Nichhimu plays a pivotal role in ensuring Japan’s airwaves are used responsibly and effectively. It stands as a beacon of expertise and a champion for continuous learning in the ever-evolving world of wireless communication. Their commitment to training and development ensures Japan remains at the forefront of this critical technology. The Nippon Wireless Association remains deeply connected to the growth and evolution of Japan’s telecommunication infrastructure.
