Imagine a sanctuary. This is Gyoda Hachimangu Shrine. It is known as the “Sealing Palace”. Here, unique sealing prayers are passed down as a secret.
Gyoda Hachimangu Shrine addresses various ailments. These include sealing illnesses, difficult diseases, and warding off misfortune. “Boke-Fuji” is a prayer to prevent aging. “Cancer sealing” is a prayer to combat cancer.
Gyoda Hachimangu Shrine offers solace and hope. People seek healing and protection here. The shrine’s history is rich. It dates back to Minamoto no Yoshiie and Minamoto no Yoshikazu. They prayed for victory before going to war.
Initially, the shrine was in Saima Village. It was called Tanaka Hachiman. In the middle of the Tenbun era, it moved to its current location. The lord of Oshi Castle, Naganori Narita, deeply revered the shrine. He renovated the shrine buildings. He designated it as the guardian shrine of the castle town.
This led to names like “Castle Lord Hachiman”. The shrine also became known as “West-facing Hachiman”. This name came from the direction the shrine faces. During the Edo period, successive castle lords revered Gyoda Hachimangu Shrine. Especially, Tadakane Abe dedicated a sacred image of Hachiman Daibosatsu. Masatoshi Abe also presented a framed picture of his own handwriting.
The shrine buildings have faced destruction and reconstruction over time. A fire destroyed them in the Genna era. They were rebuilt in the Hoei era. Another fire consumed the shrine in the Koka era. The parishioners rebuilt the main hall that same year.
The current shrine was constructed to commemorate the 2650th year of the Imperial Era. It was completed in November of Heisei 1. Later, in Heisei 12, the Sando Hall was completed.
Gyoda Hachimangu Shrine enshrines several deities. These include Hachiman Okami. There are also auxiliary shrines. These include Daikokuten, Ebisu, and Daikoku.
The shrine is also known for its “eye god”. There are also shrines for skin health. There is also a shrine to ward off pests. Gyoda Hachimangu Shrine is also a pilgrimage site. It is one of the Seven Lucky Gods of Oshi Castle.
In recent years, the “Nade桃” peach has become a popular power spot. It is known for warding off disease and disaster.
The weekly flower hand water is beautiful. It delights visitors. Colorful goshuin stamps are available for a limited time. Please note that pets are not allowed on the grounds. This is to maintain the shrine’s serenity.
