A serene temple nestled amidst the bustling city. This is Keitokuin Temple.

Keitokuin Temple a Buddhist temple holds a rich history. Founded by the revered priest Honen in the 9th century it initially bore the name Ryoseiin. It was later relocated to its current location in the Koto ward of Tokyo.

The temple’s journey is marked by relocation and change. Initially established in a different location Keitokuin was moved during the Edo period. This relocation eventually resulted in the present-day Keitokuin we see today. This involved several moves spanning many centuries.

Keitokuin is known for its principal deity Jizo Bosatsu. He’s a powerful guardian deity associated with protecting children and travelers. This Jizo Bosatsu statue is central to the temple’s significance. Devotees often come to pay their respects.

The temple suffered immense damage during the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923. This devastation almost wiped out the temple. Years later in 1928 it was rebuilt at its present site. A new statue of Jizo Bosatsu was enshrined here.

Keitokuin stands as a testament to resilience and faith. It has survived earthquakes fires and the passage of time. It continues to be a beacon of spiritual solace in a rapidly changing world. The temple reflects the enduring spirit of Buddhist faith in Tokyo. This serene location offers peace and reflection. Visit Keitokuin Temple and experience its timeless charm.
