荒川区立第五峡田小学校

Established in 1931 Arakawa Ward’s fifth Hakata Elementary School has a rich history. It initially opened as the fifth Hakata ordinary elementary school. Its name changed several times reflecting Japan’s history. It became Tokyo’s fifth Hakata Elementary School in 1932. Later in 1941 it was renamed Tokyo’s fifth Hakata National People’s School. The school building was completely destroyed in 1945 during World War II. Rebuilt it reopened in 1947. It was then officially named Arakawa Ward’s fifth Hakata Elementary School. The school has seen numerous renovations and additions throughout the years. A new school song and flag were adopted in 1957. A six classroom building and gymnasium were constructed in 1970. The school celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1981. Further renovations continued over the years. These included earthquake reinforcement work and the addition of computer equipment. The school also received designations for its contributions to traditional and cultural education.
