Haven’t you heard? The story of Nogaaya Jinja is quite interesting. The shrine before us is a testament to time and faith. Nogaaya Jinja, in Machida City, holds a special place in the hearts of locals.

Originally called Higashi Teru Palace, Nogaaya Jinja has transformed over centuries. It became what it is today by merging several important local shrines. This unification created a powerful spiritual center.

In the 正保(Shoho) years 1644-1647, four shrines were combined. These shrines included the Sumiyoshi Shrine. There was also the 天照大神(Amaterasu Omikami) Shrine of Shimo Nogaya. Additionally, the shrine of Omotesutsuo was included. Lastly, the 明神社(Myojinsha) was added. This combination reflects the community’s desire for unified worship.

The enshrined deities at Nogaaya Jinja are diverse. They represent a range of divine powers. 大日孁尊(Ōhirumemuchinomikoto) is one such deity. 天照大神(Amaterasu-Ōmikami) is also enshrined here. 大山咋命(Ōyamakuinomikoto) watches over the mountain. 表筒男命(Uwatsutsunoonomikoto) is a powerful figure as well.

徳川家康公(Tokugawa Ieyasu) is also enshrined at Nogaaya Jinja. He embodies the spirit of founding and peace. 天照大神(Amaterasu Omikami) represents the Imperial ancestor and solar power. 住吉三神(Sumiyoshi Sanjin) watches over the sea. 大山咋神(Ōyamakuinokami) embodies mountains, water, and new beginnings. These deities offer blessings to all who visit.

The shrine’s annual festival on September 17 is a significant event. It brings the community together. Locals celebrate their heritage and pray for good fortune.
