Shinjuku-ku Tateishi Shinmeihigashi Elementary School was established in 1911. It initially resided within the grounds of Chomei Temple. It was then called Kokutei Elementary School. In 1917 the school moved to the current site of the Shinjuku-ku Tateishi Integrated Education Center. It was renamed Tateishihigashi Elementary School in 1935. Finally it became Shinjuku-ku Tateishi Shinmeihigashi Elementary School in 1947 following educational reforms.

The school wasn’t always in its present location. Think of the journey. The move involved constructing new buildings. The new site was near the Shinjuku-ku Tateishi Kodaigo Park. It was also close to the Seinan Hospital affiliated with Meiji University. The hospital is quite imposing. You can almost picture the students looking up at its impressive structure.

In 1955 Shinmeihigashi Junior High School was also established. This marked a significant expansion in educational opportunities for the community. The area was developing rapidly. Many families were settling there. Children were growing up amidst a rapidly changing Tokyo.

Then in 1973 the elementary school and junior high school merged to form the integrated education center. They share the current location. The center stands as a testament to the evolution of education in the area. It reflects the community’s growth and changing needs over time.
