Beneath our feet lies Yagiri Station. It is not just a train stop. It is a portal to stories. The story of Yagiri Station begins in 1991.
Yagiri Station serves the Hokuso Line. It opened on March 31st. The station number is HS02.
Yagiri Station’s original name was Kashiwayama Station. This name was used during construction. In 2010, the station received its current designation.
The name Yagiri has an interesting quirk. The local pronunciation omits the voiced sound. So it is pronounced “Yakiri”.
Yagiri Station has an island platform design. It accommodates two faces and four lines. This underground station uses the Kashiwayama Tunnel. The tunnel stretches 1827 meters. It offers refuge if needed.
Yagiri Station supports flexible train operations. It allows for turning back trains. This is facilitated by a single-slip switch near Imba Nihon-idai Station.
The station layout includes escalators and elevators. These connect the concourse on the first basement floor. They also connect the platform on the second basement floor. Multipurpose toilets are available inside the ticket gates.
Platforms serve different directions. Lines 1 and 2 head towards Keisei-Takasago and Nihombashi. Lines 3 and 4 go toward Shin-Kamagaya and Narita Airport.
Lines 1 and 4 accommodate special trains. They allow express trains to pass. They also hold temporary and returning trains. Early morning trains towards Kitasata and trains turning back at Yagiri use line 1.
In 2017, Yagiri Station introduced departure melodies. The chosen melody is “Yagiri no Watashi”. Interestingly, the station is quite far from the ferry.
In 2020, the average daily ridership was 6193 people. The station has seen fluctuating passenger numbers over the years.
The station sits in the southeastern part of the Yagiri district. However, it is not close to the Yagiri ferry. Nearby are Chiba Prefectural Route 1. Also close are National Route 298 and the Tokyo Outer Ring Road.
International University of Health and Welfare Ichikawa Hospital is nearby. There is also the Shiki-Mukai Hospital. Matsudo City Yagiri Elementary School and Yagiri Kindergarten are in the area.
The station serves as a filming location. Many movies and TV shows have used it. These include “Godzilla vs. Mothra vs. Mechagodzilla” and “Devilman”.
Also filmed here were “Densha Otoko” and “Shin Godzilla.” The station appeared in “Kamen Rider Geats × Revice MOVIE Battle Royale.”
TV dramas like “Aoi Tori” and “Kamen Rider Sword” also filmed here. Music videos from various artists have used Yagiri Station.
