In 1908 Gakushuin University relocated. The Mejiro Toyosaka Inari Shrine moved with it. It was relocated to its present site.
The name Toyosaka Inari comes from its location. It faces a rich slope. “Toyosaka” means abundant slope. This name reflects the shrine’s close relationship with the land.
Locals also call it Hachibei Inari. This name refers to a person named Hachibei. He served and protected the shrine during the Edo period.
Mejiro Toyosaka Inari Shrine enshrines two deities. These are Wakahirume-no-Mikoto and Konohanasakuya-hime-no-Mikoto. The shrine celebrates specific festivals. Hatsuu Festival occurs in February or March. Senkyu Festival occurs in July.
