A whisper of cherry blossoms carried on the spring breeze. That’s how I remember my first day at Machida City Komoyama Junior High School. It wasn’t just any school. Machida City Komoyama Junior High School held a special place in the heart of the community.
The school opened its doors in April 2012. It was a brand new building designed to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population. Machida City Komoyama Junior High School was one of twenty new schools. It was built to handle the increasing student population. This made it one of the largest junior high schools in Machida City. At least it was at the time. In 2024 however the title passed to Machida City Machida First Junior High School.
My class was filled with diverse students. They came from all corners of the Komoyama neighborhood. The school was a melting pot of cultures. It reflected the vibrant diversity of Tokyo. We were all learning together. We were united by our shared experiences at Komoyama Junior High School.
The school’s location was incredibly convenient. It was close to many areas. Some students walked from Komoyama itself. Others came from neighboring districts. They traveled by bus or train. The school was near Komoyama Station. That provided excellent access for students coming in from outside Komoyama. This made the school more accessible. It meant students could easily attend.
One of my fondest memories was the opening ceremony. The whole school gathered. The school song and school motto were unveiled. The ceremony celebrated a new chapter. This new chapter focused on creating a new history together. The school motto was beautifully written. It spoke of dreams and hopes. It highlighted the school’s dedication to the students’ future. The school song was also unique. It included local imagery. The imagery captured the spirit of Komoyama. The local artist Kiyomizu-san helped design the song and motto. He had a strong local connection. He felt it was vital to integrate this local flavor.
Evenings found us on the school grounds. We played under the glow of the streetlights. We formed lasting friendships at Komoyama Junior High School. These friendships continued long after graduation. We were all a part of something bigger than ourselves. We were a family. The years spent at Machida City Komoyama Junior High School shaped our lives. They molded us into the people we became. The school’s legacy continues. It continues to serve the community it was built to support. The school remains a center of excellence. It’s a place where students thrive. The students become valuable members of society. A true testament to the vision of those who built Machida City Komoyama Junior High School.
