Welcome to Tajimasan Juikkaji Temple also known as Nerima Juikkaji. This unique temple complex has a fascinating history. It is a testament to resilience.

Originally, these temples were in Asakusa. They were塔頭 or sub-temples of Sensō-ji. In 1923 the Great Kantō earthquake struck. The earthquake and subsequent fires devastated Tokyo. Sensō-ji and its sub-temples were destroyed.

After the disaster, the sub-temples relocated. They moved to Nerima. This area was less densely populated. It offered a chance to rebuild. Eleven of these temples grouped together. They formed what we now call Tajimasan Juikkaji Temple.

The temples represent different Buddhist sects. All belong to the Jōdo sect. Each temple has its own unique history. Each has its own distinct character.
