Stepping back in time, imagine Tokyo in 1935. The Denenchofu Police Station, later renamed 田園調布警察署 (Denenchofu Police Station) in 1987, was established. Carved from the larger Omori Police Station, this new entity marked a significant moment in the city’s history. The Denenchofu Police Station, with its roughly 260 officers, stands as a guardian of the northwest section of Ota Ward. Its jurisdiction encompasses a diverse range of neighborhoods. These include areas like Kamiiketai, Kita-Senju, Minami-Senju, and Ishikawacho. It also covers Denenchofu-Minami, Denenchofu-Honcho, and Denenchofu from one to five chome. The station even extends its reach into parts of Meguro Ward, covering a portion of Ookayama. Over the years, the Denenchofu Police Station has witnessed its share of challenges. In 2013, a scandal rocked the station. Several officers were disciplined and even dismissed for staging bicycle thefts. This incident involved placing unattended bicycles in public areas to create the illusion of crime. Then, in 2016, another incident shook the station. Two officers committed suicide, leaving behind notes that implicated a superior officer. While the investigations concluded there was no foul play, the incidents highlighted the pressures faced by officers within the station. Today, the Denenchofu Police Station remains a vital part of Tokyo’s law enforcement. It serves as a reminder of the complexities of maintaining order in a bustling metropolis.
