The school’s original name was Supplementary Middle School. It was established to accommodate overflow students from Tokyo Prefectural Hibiya High School. Tokyo Metropolitan Toyama High School quickly gained a reputation for academic excellence, consistently outperforming Hibiya in entrance exam pass rates for higher education.
