From its humble beginnings in 1940, the Tokyo Metropolitan Katsushika No Koutou Gakkou has witnessed a fascinating transformation. Originally established as the Tokyo Prefectural Seventeenth Junior High School within the confines of the current Sumidagawa High School, it has blossomed into the institution we see today. Here we stand, before the Katsushika No Koutou Gakkou, affectionately known as “Katsuko” by its students and faculty. This school has deep roots in this community. It’s a place where history and modern education intertwine. The Katsushika No Koutou Gakkou embarked on a journey, moving to its current location in 1949. This marked a pivotal moment in its history, a fresh start symbolized by the new building. This date, February 7th, is celebrated as the school’s foundation day. Over the years, the school evolved, changing names and adapting to the changing educational landscape. From Tokyo Prefectural Katsushika Junior High School to Tokyo Metropolitan Katsushika New System High School, and finally, to its current name in 1950. Interestingly, for a period, the Katsushika No Koutou Gakkou shared a group with the Tokyo Metropolitan Minami Katsushika High School and the Tokyo Metropolitan Honjo High School. This meant they belonged to the same administrative cluster, the 6th group of the 62nd school district. Today, Katsushika No Koutou Gakkou boasts a thriving soccer club with over 90 members. The school continues its focus on enriching students’ lives. It offers a Saturday Learning program and even summer intensive courses. The school holds a special open house called the “Saturday Fun Club”, inviting prospective students to experience Katsuko’s vibrant learning environment. Beyond academics, Katsushika No Koutou Gakkou has nurtured remarkable individuals who have gone on to achieve great things. Notable alumni include racing commentator Goshi Iizuka, novelists Ginzo Otsuka and Kenji Kosaka, and even Katsushika Ward mayor Katsuyoshi Aoki. As you stand here, imagine the generations of students who have walked these halls. Their dreams and aspirations echo through the classrooms and corridors, shaping the legacy of the Tokyo Metropolitan Katsushika No Koutou Gakkou.
