Stepping into a world of faith and controversy, we arrive at the Tokyo Manmin Church, a branch of the South Korean Protestant Christian church known as Manmin Central Church. Founded in 1982 by Lee Jae-rock in Seoul, Manmin Central Church has expanded its reach far beyond its Korean origins. Tokyo Manmin Church stands as a testament to this expansion. Originally starting with a small group of twelve believers, Manmin Central Church has grown to claim a following of over 120,000 members and 9,000 branches worldwide. This rapid expansion speaks to its appeal, yet controversy has also followed. In 2018, founder Lee Jae-rock was sentenced to 15 years in prison for the sexual assault of eight female followers.
