We stand now at Kyorin University Mitaka Campus, the heart of this institution. It all began in 1953 with the Mitaka Shinkawa Hospital, right here on this very ground. Initially a haven for those battling tuberculosis, the hospital quickly expanded its reach. It incorporated psychiatric and general medical wards, becoming the Tokyo Mitaka Shinkawa General Hospital in 1963. This expansion foreshadowed the academic growth that was soon to follow. Kyorin University Mitaka Campus officially emerged in 1970. The former hospital transformed into the university’s teaching hospital, cementing its role in medical education. This campus isn’t just bricks and mortar. It’s a living testament to a visionary named Shinyu Matsuda, the founder of the original hospital. His dedication to healthcare laid the foundation for what Kyorin University Mitaka Campus is today. The university has four undergraduate faculties. These include Foreign Studies, Health Sciences, Medicine, and Social Sciences. Kyorin University also houses three graduate schools, furthering its commitment to advanced research and education.
