Doesn’t that sculpture resemble a “Fukuro”? It is actually “Tsukinihoeru ’94” by Tokao Tezuka. This artwork stands in Fuchu City. More precisely it is in the southeast of Osawa Park.

“Tsukinihoeru ’94” translates to “Barking at the Moon ’94”. It was installed in 1994. The sculpture is made of black Mikage stone.

Tezuka continued to dig ditches. He missed the abundant nature of his hometown. He thought of the grove of ditches. It was a place of crystal-clear air where he barked at the moon.

The artist wondered where those ditches had gone. They live on in his heart. “Tsukinihoeru ’94” is one of seventeen works. They are part of Fuchu City’s “Sculpture-lined Street Creation Project.”
