Is it true that Waseda University has shaped Japan’s leaders for over a century? Right here stands Waseda University. It is more than just a school. It’s a cornerstone of Japanese academia. Founded in 1882 by Okuma Shigenobu, Waseda began as Tokyo Senmon Gakko. It became Waseda University in 1902.

The Okuma Auditorium is a campus landmark. Shigenobu Okuma dreamed of such a space. After his death in 1922, plans began. The auditorium seats over 1,400 people. A clock tower rises 125 shaku high. This height reflects Okuma’s theory of living 125 years. The tower’s bells chime six times a day.
Inside the Waseda University Library, countless stories await. This library holds a vast collection. It survived the Bombing of Tokyo. It is an invaluable resource for pre-war Japanese history. The Waseda Theatre Museum is modeled after London’s Fortune Theatre. It houses nearly 37,000 items.
Waseda’s sports rivalries are legendary. The Sokeisen against Keio University is a highlight. It takes place in the Tokyo Big6 Baseball League. Waseda’s baseball club boasts the highest win percentage.
