In 1997, a significant reorganization of Shinjuku’s schools took place. Nishi-Shinjuku Elementary School was born from the merging of two schools. These were the Yodobashi Dairoku Elementary School and Yodobashi Daisan Elementary School. Following the merger, the new school used the old Yodobashi Dairoku Elementary School building.
However, the building needed seismic reinforcement. Students and staff temporarily moved to the former Yodobashi Daisan Elementary School building for two years. After the necessary work was completed, they moved to the current location. The location is the former Yodobashi Dairoku Elementary School.
Interestingly, the grounds of the former Yodobashi Daini Junior High School are also used. This allows four classes to engage in physical education simultaneously. This is due to the availability of both the schoolyard and gymnasium.
