Did fashion design students at Bunka Gakuen University foresee their creations going global? Here at Bunka Gakuen University’s Department of Fashion Technology, nestled in the bustling Shibuya ward of Tokyo, a unique collaboration unfolded. In 2018, Zara, the Spanish apparel giant, partnered with master’s students in Global Fashion and fourth-year fashion technology students from Bunka Gakuen University. The project, known as VIEW.S, aimed to showcase emerging talent from leading design schools. Five Bunka Gakuen University students were selected as finalists. Their menswear designs, a total of 15 pieces including outerwear, shirts, trousers, and t-shirts, were featured in a pop-up shop in Roppongi Hills. Imagine seeing your designs, crafted right here at Bunka Gakuen University, then displayed alongside a special Join Life exhibit and children’s activities. This wasn’t just a local showcase. These designs were then available in Zara’s Shinjuku, Nagoya, and Shinsaibashisuji locations. But it didn’t stop there. The VIEW.S collection, born at Bunka Gakuen University, went worldwide via Zara’s online store. Talk about a launchpad! This collaboration highlighted Bunka Gakuen University’s dedication to globalized, innovative, and creative fashion education.
