One of Kanno-ji’s treasures is its bell. It is a tangible link to the temple’s past. The bell dates back to 1698. A renowned metal caster named Ota Bingo Daijo Fujiwara Masatsugu crafted it. This bell is the oldest in Edogawa. It avoided being melted down for wartime efforts in 1943 due to the efforts of the 37th head priest, Nichishin. The bell is an important cultural property.
In 1935, the 36th head priest Nichiryu built a new main hall. It measured six bays in width and five and a half bays in depth. This structure served the community for many years.
The late 20th and early 21st centuries brought new challenges. These challenges prompted innovation at Kanno-ji. In 2013, a new charnel hall was built. It addressed concerns about family tombs. This octagonal hall reflects modern architectural styles. It blends wood and reinforced concrete.
In 2018, a bronze statue of Nichiren was erected on the temple grounds. This statue commemorates Nichiren’s spirit.
